Comeback Car Free Day
Car-free Day,
come back!
As a PR partner, Blyde Benelux joined forces with the circular bicycle brand Swapfiets for a number of years. Together, we have worked for livable cities and sustainable mobility. On World Car-free Day 2023, we showed what car-free streets can look like today. In doing so, Swapfiets called for a comeback of the car-free Sunday, 50 years after its first introduction in 1973-1974. The goal: livable cities with more space for cyclists and walkers, better air quality and access to sustainable micromobility.
Living streets
With (early days!) AI-generated imagery inspired by iconic photos 50 years ago, we showed how car-free streets can transform the modern city. The campaign was reinforced with a letter to the municipalities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague, where most cars are registered and where CO2 emissions can be reduced the most. The images were taken by Mark Visbeek.
Room for a
new conversation
The campaign led to substantive reactions from the municipalities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam, created a big buzz on social media and resulted in various publications in top and regional media, including Change Inc, The Entrepreneur and Fonk Magazine. This is how we strengthened the visibility of Swapfiets as the circular bicycle brand that is committed to sustainable mobility and livable cities.
