Sweatshop

Initiatief Duurzaam & Verantwoord Ondernemen (IDVO)

A better world starts with doing yourself

A one-day sweatshop was opened and made it painfully clear with a strong campaign in The Hague that international corporate social responsibility (IMVO) legislation cannot wait. With press coverage, social shares and engaged influencers, the campaign put pressure on politics and society. This showed that sustainable business and respect for human rights should not remain optional.

Although many companies put sustainable business high on the agenda, they often lack hard obligations. Only a small minority takes structural responsibility for human rights, working conditions and environmental damage in the chain. That is why IDVO, together with social partners, called for the rapid introduction of IMVO legislation. The goal of the campaign: to stimulate the social debate and to make it clear that corporate responsibility cannot remain voluntary.

Attention to irresponsible clothing production

On February 22, 2023, the campaign opened a symbolic sweatshop in The Hague. Kids printed sweaters with the slogan “A better world starts with doing yourself”. The confrontational image highlighted the urgency of new legislation.

Blyde supported IDVO in strategy, PR and media approach. Together with Tosti Creative, a concept was created that both shocked and activated. Influencers, celebrities and companies shared the signal via their channels. Press approaches and storytelling ensured that the message of the action was widely picked up in news and professional media.

Massively in action
against child labor

The campaign made the public debate tangible and increased the pressure on policy makers to take steps towards mandatory IMVO legislation. In doing so, it contributes to a fairer and more sustainable business climate.
